3rd Quarter Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (ABCD) award

Congratulations to the award winner and the nominee! Two from Food Service…way to go Dena and Tara!

Mrs. Dena Kappler (CMS, Cafeteria Manager)

Mrs. Kappler has worked hard to increase student participation in breakfast and lunch at Caroline Middle School. She knows students need fuel to learn, and she looks for ways to promote school and community health. Students are engaged to eat healthy by the smart choice menus she prepares each week.

Ms. Kappler and her staff work as a team to provide a positive environment. Students are greeted with smiles, words of encouragement, and especially tasty meals. Ms. Kappler also links food service with other classes such as Agriculture. She coordinates with farmers who visit at CMS to showcase food and livestock. These visits provide students an opportunity to learn from our local experts. Ms. Kappler is the apple of our eye in Eagle Territory!

Ms. Joyce Childs (Maintenance)

Joyce Childs goes above and beyond on a daily basis. She is on site at 6:00 a.m. each day checking schools and making sure the morning crew has schools open and ready for staff and students to arrive. Most evenings you can find Joyce checking on the maintenance crews at CCPS schools. If a colleague is absent, she makes sure the person’s responsibilities are covered or she will personally do it herself. For almost any emergency, Ms. Childs is on the scene! If it is a flood, Joyce is there with the wet vac. When the fire alarm went down at one of our buildings, Ms. Childs participated in and organized an overnight “watch crew” to monitor the facility. Who let the painters in at CMS during our winter break? Yes, Joyce Childs! When the flu appeared in our schools, Joyce brought the new Clorox machine around to each school to support the maintenance team’s efforts to keep the students healthy and in school so they can learn. Most recently, Ms. Childs worked with a team of players to construct a cover to go over the Jimmy Blanton banner for the unveiling.

Joyce’s most admirable trait is her ATTITUDE. She does all of these tasks and more with the most positive attitude. Ms. Childs is always happy to help in any way she can no matter how big the job is.  Joyce is THERE for all of CCPS and is truly a team player. Her POSITIVE ENERGY makes it a pleasure to work with her. We can’t imagine the maintenance team without her.

Rachelle Bourgeois (BGES, Assistant Principal)

Mrs. Rachelle Bourgeois constantly goes above and beyond to help our students at BGE daily.  Building relationships is one of her key skills. This valuable skill has helped her build numerous relationships with students and staff. She believes in our students and teachers and knows that we can achieve great successes.  Our school is a better place because of her, and we are so thankful to have her at Bowling Green Elementary. There is no one more deserving of this award!

A shout out goes to Bowling Green Elementary Cafeteria Manager, Tara Hoskins who was also nominated for the 3rd quarter ABCD recognition. Thank you for making a difference!
