Our School Nutrition Departments First Tower Garden Award Recipient

Dena Kappler, the cafe manager at CMS, nominated Agriscience Teacher Kelly Vaughan as the first recipient of a new tower garden, courtesy of the School Nutrition Department.

The Tower Garden system allows you to grow plants indoors — without dirt — and is the perfect school gardening system. Plus, they provide more than 30 lesson plans and learning materials, so the process can be integrated into the classroom curriculum with ease. We look forward to incorporating this exciting learning tool into additional locations in the future as part of our efforts to provide nutritional education to our students.

Research shows that healthy, properly nourished students are better able to concentrate on their work, miss school less often, and perform better in class.
