Our Menus Are Certified!

The Caroline County School Nutrition Department is happy to report that our menus have been “Certified” as compliant with the new USDA regulations. Under the HHFKA we were required to submit detailed nutritional information and to document our approach to meeting the new guidelines. This included the addition of whole grains, more fruits and vegetables as well as a reduction in calories and fats. We were one of the first Divisions to be certified in the State.
Further, we have just successfully completed the “Validation Review” performed by a team of 3 auditors from Virginia Department of Education. We were selected  to be the first school district in Virginia to complete the “Validation” due to our early certification date.
We look forward to continuing to serve healthy, balanced meals to the students of Caroline County.

Bring Your Parent To Lunch Day

Bowling Green Primary School had a huge turnout for Bring Your Parent To Lunch Day. Nearly 200 parents, grandparents and community members came together on October 17 to celebrate National School Lunch Week and see the many healthy changes being implemented to meet the tough new Federal regulations.

This event was organized by the cafeteria manager, Rachel Farmer and her staff. Thank you to Jason Mack, principal, for his support and cooperation.

Reporters from The Free Lance Star and Caroline Progress were in attendance, and a representative of School Nutrition Association also interviewed Mrs. Farmer about this event.

Food Allergies and Special Dietary Needs

Your first point of contact if you child has food allergies and/or special dietary needs is your school nurse.

You will be given a form that must be completed by your child’s doctor. This form needs to be returned to your school nurse. The nurse will share this information with the cafeteria manager.

It is important that the family understand that the school is
unable to provide food substitutions or modifications without an adequate
documentation from your child’s physician.
