Bring Your Parent to Lunch

In celebration of National School Lunch Week celebration, Bowling Green Elementary expanded the Bring Your Parent to Lunch Day concept from one day to the full week. During this week long celebration, parents, school board members, county board members, Senator Ryan McDougle,  reporters from The Free Lance Star and Caroline Progress, as well as a reporter from KIWI magazine visited our school. Here are a couple of links to articles about the events.
We are also expecting the Caroline Progress to have an article in this weeks edition.

We are excited to announce a new and improved option for adding money to your student’s cafeteria account.

As of Friday, April 26, 2013 we will transition from Cafeprepay.com to mySchoolBucks.com.

With mySchoolBucks, parents are able to register for an account and view information for free. Parents are also able to view account balances or recent purchases in the school cafeteria, add money to their student’s account, and setup low balance alerts through this award-winning, parent friendly system.

Our Menus Are Certified!

The Caroline County School Nutrition Department is happy to report that our menus have been “Certified” as compliant with the new USDA regulations. Under the HHFKA we were required to submit detailed nutritional information and to document our approach to meeting the new guidelines. This included the addition of whole grains, more fruits and vegetables as well as a reduction in calories and fats. We were one of the first Divisions to be certified in the State.
Further, we have just successfully completed the “Validation Review” performed by a team of 3 auditors from Virginia Department of Education. We were selected  to be the first school district in Virginia to complete the “Validation” due to our early certification date.
We look forward to continuing to serve healthy, balanced meals to the students of Caroline County.

Bring Your Parent To Lunch Day

Bowling Green Primary School had a huge turnout for Bring Your Parent To Lunch Day. Nearly 200 parents, grandparents and community members came together on October 17 to celebrate National School Lunch Week and see the many healthy changes being implemented to meet the tough new Federal regulations.

This event was organized by the cafeteria manager, Rachel Farmer and her staff. Thank you to Jason Mack, principal, for his support and cooperation.

Reporters from The Free Lance Star and Caroline Progress were in attendance, and a representative of School Nutrition Association also interviewed Mrs. Farmer about this event.

Food Allergies and Special Dietary Needs

Your first point of contact if you child has food allergies and/or special dietary needs is your school nurse.

You will be given a form that must be completed by your child’s doctor. This form needs to be returned to your school nurse. The nurse will share this information with the cafeteria manager.

It is important that the family understand that the school is
unable to provide food substitutions or modifications without an adequate
documentation from your child’s physician.
